Having high self-esteem can help you communicate effectively, make you a better decision maker, and allow you to maintain your integrity. However in order to build and maintain high self-esteem you must care for it on a daily basis. You must be careful not to let negative self-talk and negative people creep in and destroy your self-esteem.
Here are some tips to help you increase your self-esteem.
1. Explore self-doubt. Doubt is a normal part of life just like love and pain. It is important to remember to explore the roots of your self-doubt and ways to release yourself from it. Not facing the doubt will only make things harder for you.
2. Do an inventory of your fears. Make a list of all your fears and then make a second list of how you will overcome each one. Doing this puts fears in their place and pushes them out of your focus.
3. Be mindful of your thoughts. Remember that your thoughts have power over your life. Think positive and when negative thoughts creep in find ways to push them out. Instead of saying “I will never be good at this,” say “How can I get better at this,” or “Who can I ask to help me learn this new skill.”
4. Enjoy your success, but do not live in the past. It is so easy to think about what you have not done or do not have, but instead of doing that focus on the things that you have achieved. Be grateful for how far you have come and stay optimistic about your future.
Having high self-esteem helps you take control of your life rather than allowing others to make decisions for you. It also helps you to destroy self-limiting beliefs which can hold you back just as much if not more than other people. Practice doing something to nurture you self-esteem daily and remember: you deserve to be happy and live your life on your terms.
